Why Choose Dr. Athré
Selecting a facial plastic surgery practice in the Houston area, or anywhere for that matter, is a very important decision. There are several factors that should go into your decision-making process.
Extensive Qualifications and Training
The first thing to consider is the background of the surgeon. Dr. Raghu Athré is a board-certified otolaryngologist and facial plastic surgeon. Dr. Athré started his academic career at the University of Texas at Austin where he graduated with honors in Chemical Engineering. He has always been interested in the way things work, and creating things that work functionally and aesthetically.
Dr. Athré likes to relate surgery to engineering. Both require analysis, attention to detail and a plan of action. "Furthermore, one must always have a back-up game plan," says Dr. Athré. Following completing his undergraduate degree, Dr. Athré graduated in the top 10% of his medical school class at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, one of the top medical schools in the country. He was also awarded the Hudson-Penn Award, which is awarded annually to the top surgical senior medical student.
After medical school, Dr. Athré completed his residency in Otolaryngology and Head/Neck Surgery at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas, one of the busiest hospitals in the United States. Head and neck surgery allowed Dr. Athré to specialize in one area and become an expert with respect to all facets of surgery within that area. "Aesthetic surgery makes more sense when you have seen reconstruction and trauma and can take care of all of these problems in a comprehensive manner," states Dr. Athré. After completing residency, Dr. Athré sought out super specialty training in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive surgery. He was awarded one of less than 40 positions in the country to complete his fellowship training.
Dr. Athré completed his fellowship in Atlanta, Georgia at the Premier Image Cosmetic and Laser Surgery Center under the training of Dr. William Silver, one of the modern innovators of facial plastic surgery. All of this specialized training makes Dr. Athré qualified in all aspects of facial surgery. Dr. Athré continues to take several courses to learn the most cutting edge techniques to continually provide better results for his patients. As an additional qualification, Dr. Athré serves as one of the clinical instructors at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston to train residents in facial plastic surgery.
A Warm and Welcoming Demeanor
The next major factor to consider when selecting a surgeon is the interaction and relationship between yourself and the surgeon. Just listen to what one of Dr. Athré's patients has to say about him:
"Dr. Raghu Athré takes the time to examine a patient. He sits down next to you and listens to what is on your mind or your concerns. He's not a conveyer belt doctor. I actually recommended my sister to schedule a visit with him." – R.B.
The consultation process begins with a detailed history and physical exam, a full set of pictures, and a computer imaging session performed by Dr. Athré. All of these facets serve to evaluate the patient fully, and provide a detailed plan of action. Several options are provided to the patient so that they can understand and choose the treatment that is ideal for them.
Attention to detail does not stop with the consultation. It carries through to surgery and the postoperative period. Vitamins and supplements are tailored to the patient to optimize wound healing and Dr. Athré is personally available 24 hours a day to answer questions and concerns. "When a patient calls after hours, they do not get an answering service. They have an option to talk to me personally, because it is imperative that they get their questions and concerns answered immediately," he says.
"My vision with Athré Surgical Associates is to provide the highest quality of care to my patients. It allows me to bring my passion, energy, commitment, education, and education to give my patients great care and accomplish excellent results for them," adds Dr. Athré. "My responsibility is not skin deep with only aesthetic concerns, but rather to address all of their functional concerns, aesthetic concerns and emotional concerns. I like to educate my patients so that they know everything about all of the options, and then we form a comprehensive plan of care together."
