Lip Augmentation in the Houston, Texas Area

Want plumper, more luscious lips? You could have juicier lips in just 25 minutes! Genetics and natural aging can lead to thin, drawn lips. Lip augmentation in the Houston, Texas area is a simple way to add volume to the upper and/or lower lips with little downtime.

Lip augmentation creates fuller, plumper lips and reduces fine wrinkles around the mouth. Temporary solutions for lip augmentation are achieved through injectable fillers like collagen, Restylane®, and fat injections, requiring repeat treatments to maintain lip augmentation, as the materials are readily absorbed into the body. Collagen used in lip augmentation generally lasts 2 to 3 months, and Restylane® lasts upwards of 6 months. Fat injections can last slightly longer.

Anatomy of the Lips

The upper and lower lips are made up of the red portion called the vermillion, and skin. As the vermillion comes to join the skin, it creates a little mound known as the white roll. Beneath the skin, the orbicularis muscle circles the mouth and gives the lip volume.

Aging and the Lips

With age, the muscle around the mouth slowly shrinks and loses volume. This in turn decreases the overall volume of the lips and the amount of vermillion that is visible. The skin around the lips can also shrink, lose collagen, and develop vertical wrinkles.

The skin around the lips can be treated with peels and laser regimens. Both treatments resurface the skin and can smooth wrinkles around the lips.

Surgical Approaches

Several types of lip implants, such as ePTFE and VeraFil, are used to permanently increase the volume of the lips. Both of these implants can be customized to the anatomy of the patient and the amount of volume that needs to be added to the lip. These implants are also removable, if the patient desires.

These procedures can be done in the clinic under local anesthesia or in the operating room. Surgical lip augmentation takes approximately 30 minutes per lip and patients can return to full physical activity within 1 to 2 days.

Injectable Fillers

The best option for lip augmentation is hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane and JUVÉDERM®. This option provides the most natural, soft, and non-detectable results while lasting upwards of 6 months! Many implants made of Gore-Tex and other materials are available for lip implantation. The problem with these permanent implants is that these implants can warp and harden over time leaving a hard, unnatural result.
