This patient underwent 4 previous rhinoplasties over a time period of 15 years. She first underwent a septoplasty to help with her breathing and had a few cosmetic concerns addressed at the same time. The first procedure was performed over 15 years ago. Unfortunately, she continued having breathing difficulties. Since she is a very active person, not being able to breathe through her nose really affected her activity level. She sought corrective surgery and underwent a revision rhinoplasty and 2 touch-up surgeries approximately 1 year prior to her meeting us at Athre Surgical Asssociates. She had become exasperated at not being able to breathe through her nose despite numerous surgeries. Dr. Athre reconstructed her husband's nose and she therefore, sought Dr. Athre's expertise in rhinoplasty surgery. After a full exam, Dr. Athre discovered that she needed a complete open revision surgery to reconstruct her septum and nasal pyramid. The patient underwent the surgery where cartilage from the patient's ear was used to reconstruct her nose. The one thing she noted on the day after surgery was that this surgery did not hurt her at all, which was very unlike any of her prior surgeries. She is shown 4 months after surgery. She states that for the first time in 20 years, she can breathe through her nose, and she is thrilled with the cosmetic result.
